With Opengear’s CM4148 console server, System Administrators and IT Managers of mid sized enterprises can now afford to monitor and control their IT systems and networks anywhere in the world, at any time. The CM4148 has forty eight serial ports that provide secure access to the serial console ports on Windows, Sun and Linux servers. The CM4148 also can monitor and control network appliances (like routers and gateways) and more general appliances (like building security systems, PBXs, UPSs and power switches).
Simple and Secure Console servers provide a simple and secure solution for accessing, monitoring, and controlling multiple servers and appliances from a single console. They provide the managers with direct console access for troubleshooting and diagnostics, and enable them to reconfigure and reboot servers and appliances. Managers can connect both locally and remotely. A console server at a remote site can be accessed In-band (through the Internet network), or Out-of-band (through a dial-up modem connection to the console server’s modem port). Similarly a console server located locally can be accessed In-band (through the office TCP-IPnetwork), or Out-of-band (through a telnet serial connection to the console server’s console/modem port). All connections are secure, with encrypted access to remote systems using up to 128-bit AES encryption. The console server also provides a selection of filtering and access logging facilities. All console logs can be archived off line. Also access can be restricted by IP address or password, or account. So managers can securely control and manage their distributed networks of servers and appliances.
Open Source Opengear’s products are built on open source standards. They embody the strength and security of Linux and they enable users to customize management solutions to meet their own needs. The CM4148 console management solution has a simple Web browser interface so the manager can easily configure the appliance, the access security, and the console ports. However, the manager also can interface directly, at the command line, with the Linux kernel running inside the CM4148. Opengear takes a lead role in the development of open source console management and KVM technology. The CM4148 is supplied with okvm source code and the freedom under open source to be uniquely configured and customized to meet the System Administrator’s or IT Manager’s needs.
