The Opengear IMG4216-25 gateway enables network and system administrators to manage the entire IT infrastructure in their distributed businesses and branch offices at a fraction of the cost and complexity of other solutions
Opengear’s next generation Integrated Management Gateway family provides the first truly integrated management solution. The IMG4216-25 provides:
- Management LAN with 24 Ethernet ports for direct connection to service processors and network consoles
- Single integrated gateway that manages the full spectrum of serial and network connected servers and appliances at the site
- Service processor and BMC management for IPMI, RSA, DRAC, iLO, ALOM and more
- Centralized in-band and out-of-band management gateway with encrypted authenticated access for local and remote management
- Sophisticated monitoring, alerts and alarm management with embedded Nagios
Integrated management LAN Branch offices in distributed enterprises host a diversity of advanced IP networks, applications and computer configurations. A dispersed array of system and network administrators, applications specialists and vendor help desks, and other service providers then seek access to their piece of this infrastructure - each looking to make their own safe access holes in the remote site’s security fabric.
The IMG4216-25 gateway provides a single integrated point of secure access for all these managers and for all their tools, protocols and management applications. The gateway has flexible yet powerful access control policies, restricting access by IP address, password and account. Users are locally or remotely authenticated and then restricted to only using nominated services and TCP/UDP ports to access the specifically approved devices. And all communications are encrypted.
In-band and Out-of-band management Remote branches and SMB offices are managed on a day to day basis using in-band protocols and applications over the main production network. In-band applications such as WebEx, GoToMyPC, Nagios and OpenView, and tools like Telnet, Remote Desktop and VNC enable the applications, the computers and the network devices to be configured and controlled remotely. However these computer and network devices also have out-of-band access facilities so they can still be accessed, reconfigured and recovered in event of failure of the normal in-band management methods or connections (e.g. when the operating system crashes or a network connection fails).
The IMG4216-25 gateway provides both in-band and out-of-band access for all these management facilities. The gateway can be accessed in-band securely by the local or remote manager using the public data network or a private IP network. Alternately it can be accessed out-of-band using an alternate broadband route or a dial-in modem. Therefore if the in-band production network is down, access is still available out-of-band. Additionally the gateway’s SSH tunneling and robust authentication enables the manager to securely use classical in-band applications over these out-of-band channels to reconfigure operating systems and reset network etc.
